UP Health System – Marquette has announced that Bradford Blakeman, MD will join its Heart & Vascular team as a cardiovascular surgeon.
Dr. Blakeman joins as a full-time CV surgeon in a new partnership between UP Health System – Marquette and Cardiac Surgery Associates of Downers Grove, IL.
Through this partnership, 24/7 cardiovascular surgery services will be provided at UP Health System – Marquette. Joining Dr. Blakeman in this partnership are CV surgeons Juan Bonilla, MD, Jeffrey Silver, MD, and William Polito, MD.
Dr. Blakeman will provide comprehensive heart surgery services to Upper Peninsula residents, including minimally invasive heart surgery, beating heart surgery, specialty valve replacement and repair, and major vascular surgery.
Dr. Blakeman spent 19 years as an academic surgeon. He rose quickly to full professor because of strong academic interests and ground-breaking surgery in the Midwest.
He has published nearly 70 articles and papers, and participated in 13 clinical studies. He is also a member of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery – the most prestigious clinical and academic thoracic society in the world.
In midcareer, Dr. Blakeman decided to pursue private practice to extend high-risk heart surgery to the community setting. He has been providing life-saving heart surgery services in local hospitals of northwest Indiana and the south side of Chicago.
Attention to care, quality and efficiency has allowed his personal care team and hospitals to surpass national standards for outcomes every year for the past 10 years and counting.
Dr. Blakeman’s personal interests include golf and a physically active lifestyle. On visiting Marquette, he was enamored with our energetic downtown area, the beautiful scenery, and the friendly people.
The Heart & Vascular team at UP Health System – Marquette has been positioning itself for growth and expanding its services to the community, adding cutting-edge procedures such as the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and Watchman left-atrial appendage closure device implant in 2016, and a state-of-the-art $1.9 million cath lab in December 2016.
