Dr. Hoenke and the Hockeyville Dream

UP Health System – Marquette’s Dr. Fritz Hoenke (above, center) wrote the winning essay which entered Marquette and Lakeview Arena into the Kraft Hockeyville competition.

Our community rallied behind the cause, and Marquette went on to be named Kraft Hockeyville USA 2016. Our city received $150,000 for upgrades to Lakeview Arena and hosted an NHL preaseason game on October 4th.

“During the game, Marquette proved to the nation they truly are Kraft Hockeyville USA, as the passion the community has for hockey was clear to see from the immense excitement everyone expressed,” TV-6’s Mallory Anderson writes.

Dr. Fritz Hoenke is a family medicine physician at UP Health System – Marquette Family Medicine. He originally came to the Upper Peninsula for his love of the northern woods, fishing and hunting, and to raise his family in the unique and beautiful environment of the UP. He and his wife Gayle, a registered nurse, have eight children.
